Just finished sealing the tank and cleaning the carb on my 3.6 Scotty (61 or 62). Another attempt to get it up and running. I've had the carb apart a number of times; it ran in the past but not well. I'm ready to make another attempt. Anybody know what the rough settings are to start it up. thanks!

Re: Tillotson Carburetor rough settings - Scotty 3.6

For anyone interested. I answered my own question after some searching on the internet. For anyone with the Scott's and Firestone's and other oddballs with Tillitson carburetors: I found a site and it said as a rough setting to open both jets one turn. Tried it today. As it turned out the high speed at one turn was too rich. I found the 'sweet spot' at about a 3/4 turn from seating. I'm still having trouble with the idle but I'm half way home. This is just an FYI. The carb you have may be different but this is what I discovered.

My 46 firestone 3.6 idles fine at 1/2 turn out. F_R told me that was usually the right setting and that the idle screw works kinda backwards. turn in to richen, out to lean. However on my wizard 3.6 I can't get the idle right and will probably take the carb apart and clean again. probably clean the tank again.

Didn't give it much thought but what F_R said about the idle needle makes sense. It's mounted vertically and bottoms out in an opening to the atmosphere. It makes sense that when it's more in the closed position it lets in less air;thus a richer mixture. This is just the opposite of most 'needles' (more closed they are the less fuel). Like you (ronboonville) I've had the carb apart a number of times and the tank recently sealed yet I have trouble with idle. Let me know if you solve it
