Read the Link and Sync adjustment by Frank Acampora in the Force & Chrysler FAQ and other great information in top of this forum.
This is a clipping from the instruction . 10. I can NOT stress this enough! NEVER set the low speed needles less that 3/4 turns out no matter how poor the idle or acceleration. To do so will run the engine too lean and detonation and melted pistons at or near full throttle operation will result.
He suggest not less then 3/4 but I do not go less then 1 turn myself, but that is my own rule. The fuel today just get worse and worse.

Years ago the factory service dept. issued a service bulletin. They suggested/said "set the air screws out at 1 turn and leave it there" I've never found that that would work.
I had 4 1988 85hp and all liked the 1 and 1/8th turn out.

Thank you! Definitely noted. And if this does not get the outboard to run well I guess it means there isn't much else to do. I think I'm getting close enough now that I'll just tweak the idle screws out a 1/4 turn and see how things go. Thanks again for the help.

If it's running but running bad?? do the starting fluid test.
Start and run at idle, spray SF around the intake side of the motor. Spray under the base of the carbs and under the pack/coils and around the 4 port covers, anywhere it might draw air into the motor. IF??? it makes the motor run/ cough, stutter run bad as you spray?? Then it's sucking air. The 4 port covers: the gaskets are thin and weak and can blow out or suck in and allow air in.

Perhaps I missed them.----But what are the actual compression values on this motor?

ALL idle MIXTURE adjustment screws. Are adjusted by listening to the SMOOTHNESS of the engine warmed up in forward gear. While the boat is moving in water.

I had the boat out Wednesday. Tweaked the low speed mixture screws to 1 1/8 and settled on that. Runs ok. Better warm starting. Sometimes doesn't idle perfectly but I think I might be done messing with it. Hopefully I can get out out on the water again soon to confirm. Thanks everyone for your help.
