I was just out on the water and noticed that at WOT I can only trim to the 1/2 mark on trim gauge at speed it stops there no matter how many times you hit the trim up. Is this correct like to protect your motor from comming out of the water at speed from over trim. It is a 1998 Merc 115 on a Ranger R71

When you look at your trim and tilt you will see that there is 2 TRIM rods that push the motor up to a certain point then the single TILT rod push the motor al the way up .... when running your motor at WOT you can only tilt the motor to the trim furthest point, the TILT rod don't have enough power to take it futher ..... also to protect your motor I would say ....

Mine has the one rod and I have a very "high rake" on my transom; like 25 degrees. This high rake causes me to run out of trim (not tilt, trim) before i'm finished. I can't trim out to the point that I reach prop blowout like I could on my last boat. The functions that dee mentioned are contained in your multi-function, single piston pump which is common on the intermediate engines like my '02 90 hp.

There are shim kits available for the outboard. You end up sacrificing the low point but gain on the top.
