Came home last night to find the tilt trim motor on my Evinrude 70 hp vro 1990 whirring away.

The enging has tilted up and punched a hole in the garage door.! Wif is extremely happy.

I assume i have a short somewhere. i dissconected the switch on the engine but this was not the problem. Unhitched the battery, had a beer and went to bed.

Do you think it is the switch on the controll lever, or do I look for another culprit ?

I could possibly be a switch, but most likely is a solenoid. It could also be a "wet" switch if you were out in the rain.
