I have a later 80s 140 hp evinrude. The motor has sat a while but before installing on my boat i had it tested by a trusted mechanic.. Tom at mazanet marine and good compression etc etc. I hooked up the wires today 1 and a half years later with a fully charged battery and the tilt and trim isn't functioning properly. With the motor up screw I removed the screw and the unit is full of fluid. When you engage the switch on the gear shift lever up or down you can hear the motor try and work. When you start it with the motor tilted up the motor floats down quickly, once down you try and engage the motor to go u and nothing happens but you can hear the motor trying to work. With the motor tilted up if you engage the down switch it goes down in a controlled fashion. With the motor tilted up and the lock not engaged the motor will remain tilted up. thoughts...
