Tilt and Trim not working

I have a 1978 115 evinrude that the t&t quit working on. Came back from fishing and put motor down to flush. 2 days later it won't go up. Solenoid just clicks. Thought this was strange but bought a new one and installed. New one does the same thing. This is a 3 wire setup hooked up to a single solenoid mounted inside boat. How can I test and be sure the problem is or isn't the trim motor?

If it will not go up put direct power to the blue wire and the motor should make the drive go up.

on my late 80s 70 HP the wires were loose and I could drive the trim up or down by touching the blue and green wires to a battery...green to pos and blue to negative made the motor go one way, switch the wires and the motor went the other way.

i would bet you could try the same thing.

No, it's a three wire motor with a common ground. Black wire negative, alternate positive to blue or green depending on direction.

The solenoid is only used to raise the motor, not to lower it, so be sure that it is wired correctly.

Thanks guys, will try a jumper to the blue and green wires as soon as this dang rain stops.

Still no go, picked up a used unit but it is a 2 wire hook up. Do I need a different connection?

The two wire motors require a relay system that reverses polarity. Unless you want to buy new, you can make one with a reversing solenoid or try to find a used relay box from a salvage yard.

Did you jump the black wire to the negative battery post?
