i have a 1988 50 evinrude that came with a single hydrolic cylinder with the pump built in...
its run by a small motor bolted perpendicular, that is connected by a three wire system..(up...down)
the name on the cylinder is prestolite.
the motor is fried...
i keep getting told its only a power tilt system not trim, then im told its trim and tilt....
confused, what do i have and what is the difference? the motor has only one pivot point..
.....if anyone has a motor for this let me know
..
thxs very much..happy new year on the water

Ayuh,... Tilt, 'n Trim are the same thing...

The terms merely describes the amount of travel...

From full down, it's trim, up to where the prop leaves traction/ the water, then it's tilt...

Sounds like power tilt only. Try Acro marine in Pensacola Fl for a mtr. I'm sure somebody else will chime in with other sources.

From his description of the unit I'd still say it's power tilt only.

Pump and hydraulic cylinder all one unit with the motor sticking out sideways---right? Power Tilt only.

definitely tilt only. You will find that out if you try to trim it while you are running. It will just push it straight back down. If there is someone who rebuilds starters around you they can rebuild that motor. I had mine done for 30.00.
