I have a 86 etlj and the tilt and trim shock is a piece o junk. Its missing everything except the shock so today I hand raised the motor after catchin some fish got home went to lower the motor and it got stuck in the up position. Its happened before and I just loosened the relief valves and it went down. Not this time its stuck up and the only way to get it down was to remove the bottom bolt and since its no good Im just going to remove the whole shock. Bottom bolt piece o cake but for the life of me I cant figure out how to remove the top pin, bolt or whatever it is. So Im wondering if anybody can give me a clue on how to get it out. I cant see no threads on it but thats all I can tell you all. Thanks for any help anybody can give me

It would help if you have us the full model #

But my guess on the top pin is it has a snap ring you need to remove and then push the pin out

Yep, that 50 should have the c clip and pin.

Tilt motor all the way up and lock it into place
Remove c clip from the inside and push pin outward

Have all of the electrical wires and bonding wires removed before you push/drive the top pin out. It can turn into a dog and pony show if the trim and tilt assembly is no longer attached to the motor except by the wires. Try holding the unit in one hand while removing a number of other wires with the other hand.

Is the trim and tilt assembly complete loose at the bottom? If not, do it. Then jiggle the assembly as the pin is pressed out. Maybe use a wooden dowel and a percussion tool to drive the pin out. Just make sure there is no load on the pin that will cause excessive friction.
