I have an '83 Tracker with an 83 Merc 50hp w/ PTT. The pump and motor are in the bilge area VS hanging off the transom. This makes life slightly easier, but I need to know how in the heck to get the motor seperated from the pump for cleaning and inspecting it ?
I couldn't make out all the #'s on the motor, paint was missing.....it is a two-wire motor, up control = blue, down = green.

The bilge pump motor has two bolts/rods that got through the motor housing and screw into the pump housing/resivor(sp) to mount the motor. If you are not having any trim problems I would leave well enough alone, but if you must be very careful as the seal that goes between the motor and pump can be damaged and are not available. If yours has thee wires going into the top of thee motor you can remove the top cap with out removing thee center armature. new brush and brush mount assemblies can be gotten for about $35. Please make sure your manual address the pump removale and replacement.

RICK RICK....THANKS ! I'm SURE you meant to write Trim/Tilt motor...NOT Bilge pump ! LOL

OK...Here's an update.... I pulled the cover off of the motor, and found the brushes were welded to the clips they set in.......and lots of rust at the bottom of the shaft. Took it around the corner and they rebult it for 47.00.
Got it home....it WORKED ! BUT, (isn't there ALWAYS a but....?)
the motor cycled a few times, then I started getting the infamous click click from the silenoids.. tap on the motor casing and it would work a few more times. Took the motor back and they found an open in the armature...waiting to get a call from them.....I'll keep you posted...
