Tilt and trim wiring question

OK guys I need a hand. I have 84 115 Yammys yhat have a 3 wire tilt and trim system. I just bought a brand new tilt and trim unit off ebay that was in the Yamaha factory box for 350 buck and it is 2 wire. (I could not pass that deal up period.) I know I can make it work but I need help to figure out how. I know that if I energize 1 wire the other wire defaults to ground and vise versa. What would be the simplest way to wire it up using the solenoids already in place if I can. If not how would you wire it up. Thanks for the help

Re: Tilt and trim wiring question

you will ither have to rig a box with 4 solinoids or use the later style 2 wire solinoids or relay box. a lot of the older v6 solinoids default to ground when not energized. its not difficult to rewire most of them. just takes a bit of reading the harness diagrams on both styles.

Re: Tilt and trim wiring question

So I could buy a set of 2 wire solenoids and hook them up pretty much where mine sit?

Re: Tilt and trim wiring question

depends on the solinoid. thats why I dont suggest people to attepmt modifications without some reading. some default some dont you are the one with the motor, grab your ohm meter and start testing. to poer up a two wire motor the up solinoid must supply 12V + to the blue wire while at the same time the ground path is completed through the green wire at the solinoid. reverse it and it goes down, ie 12v+ on the green and a return path through the blue and it goes down. a quick session with a DMM and you will know.
