Tilt Cylinder Leaking - Need Advice

My motor is a 1994 70hp Force which has sat for a couple of years. The tilt motor went bad over that time and I replaced it and refilled with fluid and now the tilt works fine...however, I noticed the cylinder (or shock or piston or whatever it is technically called) is leaking. It is not leaking where the rod slides in and out but rather around the cap the rod slides through where it is screwed on. I guess it froze or something.

My question is can this be fixed or does it have to be replaced? Also, if it has to be replaced would a tilt cylinder off of a larger Force outboard work? I ask because there is one listed on Ebay for $100 which is labeled as "Chrysler Force Trim Tilt Shock Absorber FS631962 Trim S719962 shock absorber". I think it's for a 150hp but don't really know. I doubt it would work but it is cheap compared to all of the other ones I've seen listed. Thanks.

Re: Tilt Cylinder Leaking - Need Advice

go to fastenal, grainbger, hydraulic supply, etc. and ask for a metric oring to match the old one.
you might find one.

The center wiper - the angled scraper made from polyurethane plastic - will be almost impossible to find. Industrial seal wholesalers do not have any other machine on record that ever used that size. So, even though it conforms to industrial standard profiles and dimensions it was never used on anything except 1993-1995 force three ram trim systems. When your tilt center wiper goes bad on such a system, just chuck the cylinder in the trash and buy a 1981-1992 chrysler force cylinder. They are interchangeable as an assembly but the chrysler design uses real world seal sizes.
