My motor is a 1994 70hp Force which has sat for a couple of years. The tilt motor went bad over that time and I replaced it and refilled with fluid and now the tilt works fine...however, I noticed the cylinder (or shock or piston or whatever it is technically called) is leaking. It is not leaking where the rod slides in and out but rather around the cap the rod slides through where it is screwed on. I guess it froze or something.
My question is can this be fixed or does it have to be replaced? Also, if it has to be replaced would a tilt cylinder off of a larger Force outboard work? I ask because there is one listed on Ebay for $100 which is labeled as "Chrysler Force Trim Tilt Shock Absorber FS631962 Trim S719962 shock absorber". I think it's for a 150hp but don't really know. I doubt it would work but it is cheap compared to all of the other ones I've seen listed. Thanks.
