I have my boat and motor pretty much overhauled and today I went to run the motor on the muffs and in the process discovered the trim motor wasn't responding. The motor was tilted up at the time. I found the wires to the trim motor to have been crushed somehow between the motor mounts. I repaired this and still no good. So I whacked the motor with a pair of vise grips and it started working again. So looks like a new motor. Problem is, when I was trimming up and down to bleed the system it died again with the motor down.
What I need now is an (relatively) easy way to jack the motor up so I can get at the trim system. I did turn the manual release screw and now I can lift a few inches but that's all I can do by myself. I was thinking a balloon or something to gently push it up? Any ideas? I don't have a good floor jack but that might be what it takes, I don't know.
