First of all the prices people are selling those at are ridiculous. Second of all you'd have to put even more time and money into it by repairing it and buying parts for it. If you take it in to have someone else do it you'd be out a lot of money.

Don't buy a defective T@T It's gonna cost another 300-500 to fix. There are some out there that are in working order.
Or just look for any 80's model Force 85 or 125hp motor.Buy a complete motor, then you will have lots of spare parts. Craigslist or e-bay.J

They all go up and down great if the motor spins. Very few of them
will lift and hold this year. Almost none of them will lift and hold next
year. They wouldn't be selling the trim system if the motor was
still running. If they didn't maintain the motor then they probably
didn't maintain the trim either.

The best path is to spend $180-$240 on a used system from Michigan
and be prepared to spend another $200-$300 having the pump assy.
rebuilt. Ends up same $$ as jack plate without the hassle and you
get a smoother working system.

When it comes time to fix, stay away from chinese motors.
I am starting to see them after a year or two of use. It is abysmal how quickly
they corrode. The quality in materials and finishes just isn't there.
Buy USA stuff. USA stuff is hugely higher quality.

If you are patient and have the time, you will be able to get one for a much better price. I actually just got a totally rebuilt unit with a warranty on E-bay for under 300.00. Of course, It's taken months to finally get one at that price.....good luck!

that was me and its the last one I'll ever do. I've have no intention of ever doing any more Force except freshwater motors and valve bodies. Force owners aren't willing to pay more than chinese price and I'm not willing to put out crummy quality. So I'm not doing force anynmore. There are plenty of mercury, evinrude, and yamaha owners who actually care whether or not it is reliable.

definitely. Used force stuff during off-season is 1/2 price (or less).
