Re: Tilt question?

Sir: may i with all due respect suggest you purchase a manual.

Best would be a original factory manual year specific, second best would be a Seloc do not buy a clamer.

The rubber bumpers are on the out side of the clutch housing.

And have nothing to do with the clutch housing.

They cover the trunion zerk fittings.

And why would you buy a part you don't even know is bad yet?

And one last thing read my old post again maybe print it out.

And take it over to the drive when your working on it.

You need a factory original year specific or a seloc.

What you have is toilet paper.

Yours is electric shift correct?

Re: Tilt question?

Before pulling anything else apart. I would find tilt motor and follow wires to connector plug. pull plug apart and get 2 wires with blade connectors on the end and plug then onto tilt motor connectors, then touch one on positive and one on negative battery terminals to see if motor spins, you can reverse wires and it should go in opposite direction. if so you have a electrical problem and not a problem with tilt clutch, if tilt was holding sterndrive in up position before you pulled apart, i dont think that the clutch is the problem. normally when clutch is the bad someone has the sterndrive tied in up position with rope or tiedow.

Re: Tilt question?

My drive just did what you describe. in a half hour i had mine working again.

Yes you can remove the motor without removing the drive.

I posted the way i do it. you want to listen to the other guy your gonna blow your motor, another 120 bucks maybe less.

You have a fully charged battery?

Remove the tilt clutch housing cover. Is there water in there? I bet there is.

Remove the clutch. How i do it i remove the the half moon gear, but first i tie up the drive, so when you remove the half moon gear it don't fall.

I remove the gear that drives the half moon gear, after the half moon gear is removed.

I remove the clutch.

I soak clutch in the strongest stuff i can get my hands on. Acertone maybe, any home depot has it, lowes, true value. Gas will do in a pinch.

Blow it dry.

Soak it in oil.

Now i use carb cleaner, or brake cleaner and spray inside the clutch housing till it's clean in there.

I reinstall the clutch, gear, half moon gear, clutch housing cover, fill with 30 weight oil.Untie the drive.

Now try it.

If it don't work than it's time to pull the motor, and it ain't a pleasure to do.

You got to be part monkey.

Good luck!

Re: Tilt question?

ok so i pulled apart the cluch housing and there was a little water in there so i cleaned it out then per your other post on rebuilding the cluch housing i packed it with grease rather than 30 weight motor oil by the way is there a diffrence in 30w motor oil and outboard motor oil? I still had nothing after doing all that, so i pulled the tilt motor and rusty water came out the bolt holes so i think the motor may be shot? Any ideas
