Tilt ram cap is STUCK, when to give up....

I am trying to unscrew the tilt ram cap on an Ocean runner 1993 225HP and this mo-fo is stuck. I used a big breaker bar and the hyd tool, no luck, I even took a a hammer and punch to the cap. Dealer said hit it with an air hammer and that should spin it but I don't have one. Any ideas?

Carefully appy some heat to the sluminum surrounding the threaded area with a hand held propane torch. That combined with the breaker bar you mentioned should do it.

sometimes the cost of labor is so much that saltwater parts are not worth saving. Sometimes its cheaper just to buy a used one from michigan and cut your losses. If you see any white powdery stuff that is not dried salt. Its aluminum oxide, its 10x bigger than the aluminum, and it grows from inside threads first.

The thing is, if you ever get it off the threads may be gone in it from corrosion.

Well it is a stinker, Poor / no Zincs never flushed. Possibly came of a crab boat with 1000's hours.
I thought about an ebay unit but now I cant get the lower pin out! Barnicals and crap everywhere.

Any tips on knocking out the lower pin? I gave it the heat from a plumbing torch with the hotter gas, wacked the crap out of it and nothing.

i buy sawzall blades and carbide drill bits in bulk for just these types of occasions.

An acy/oxy torch, a good brass drift and a bfh work good for these probs.

I pulled the boat down to the local OMC wrench and he hit it with an air hammer and spun that sucker free. 18 pack bud light payment. I need to buy a new cap but I'm back in the game. We'll find out if that is a good thing or not.
