tilt sensor on steering tube?

just picked up a pair of 225 loopers,both needing trim units,while taking the old steering tube out,the swich and plastic cam?device,made of plastic got distroyed,the questions,why are they there,the older engines worked fine without,most important,I want to do away with them,(less stuff to go bad)what do I need to do?and can I?

I believe you mean the tilt limit switches.They adjust so cowling doesn't hit motor well when tilted full up.

Thank you DHP,can I disconnect and do away with the limit switch,I haven't examined the workings ,Im sure I can,is there anything I need to do to bypass it,just looking to make it easier for myself,I never had a cowling issue before and routing the wires and getting the old burned up(thanks to heat wrench)switch plus cost is why I want to do away.Thanks again 4 the help.

Not a problem to eliminate the switch.I believe it opens the circuit to the pump motor,so you'll probably have to connect the wires that were going to it.
