I have a 85 hp 1974 Johnson that runs great but I have been cleaning it up and trying to get it a little better shape. The person I bought it from said it used to have tilt/trim on it but it quit working and he took it off and put a manual tilt on it. I would like to add tilt/trim back to it but have wanted to avoid doing an aftermarket CMC tilt/trim.

I put an ad on craigslist and a guy told me that he had a tilt/trim that came off an 85 hp johnson that was right around that year. I bought it for a good price with the condition I could return it if it didn't fit.

I got it home and I'm not sure it fits. I have attached some pictures. Can anyone give me some suggestions?tilttrim 1.JPGtilttrim 2.JPG

It is the old style trim and tilt. The major difference would be if you had a two or three wire connection. Being a 1974 I would say you would have had a three wire pump, this one maybe a two wire. You may have to change the connections around a bit. Check the bolt pattern. If it fits the bolt pattern, you are good to go.

The biggest issue I am facing is it doesn't seem to fit into the motor. Am I missing something?

Well I guess I have to find another one. Any idea what I ought to sell the one I have for? Any takers?
