I'm doing spring maintenance on my new boat (well new to me anyhow) and have a couple of questions.

I want to top of the fluid in my power tilt and trim. On the unit I have a flush mounted screw near the top and a pan head screw on the bottom. Am I safe in assuming it's the flush mount screw that is my access to the resevoir?

Also, I want to replace the lower unit oil. I'm assuming I open the top screw for ventilation and then open the bottom screw to drain and then reverse the process (close bottom screw and fill from the top)?

I have a '90 50 hp Evinrude.

Any instructions or suggestions are appreciated.

Re: tilt/trim and greasing lower gear case

Hi Fishboy....

Trim and Tilt...right below the motor, thats the part the wire harness runs to, you will see a fill plug. Raise the motor all the way up and remove the fill plug. The reservoir level should be even with the bottom of the fill plug hole. Add TNT fluid as needed.

Lower unit....top plug is vent, lower plug is drain and fill. After the old gearcase fluid is drained, fill from the bottom until the fluid comes out the vent hole. Replace the vent plug first and then the drain/fill plug last.
