The trim motor is a External pump motor, the electric motor will spin but the motor will not go up or down was on the lake was working fine then 10mns later nothing. What could it BE :
1976 115 thunderblot, the trim motor has new fluid in it i had to replace the brushes that go against armatuer so i drained fluid and put in new this was 3wks ago had been working fine until yesterday
That is a strange problem. Is it possible the PTT motor mounting bolts got loose, and allowed the PTT motor to ride up? If that isn't it, maybe you sheared the armature of the motor, or the control valve went bad.
You may have snapped the drive shaft coupler?? which connects the motor and pump assembly. For the life of me I can't find a part number but it's a plastic cylinder cast to fit two tanged shafts.
Im branching my question off this thread as to not start ANOTHER PTT thread.....
I too have an external PTT pump mounted Starboard side next to the battery compartment. Ive never seen an external PTT pump, and need more info that could help me bleed out the system to safely remove lines attached to motor since I am removing it to repair my boat...

I just disconnect the lines with the motor in the down position (no force exerted on trim system), then drop the hyd. lines in a 1 gal jug. I don't know what is normal because...well, I bought a mercury and now normal is relative, but my lines only drip a little bit.
