Hi all,
have a 98 Johnson 150 Ficht, tilt motor worked intermittently then not at all. Bought a new motor, $$$, plugged it straight into the power panel before I commenced the removal operation, no go. Confirmed relays were clicking and +12V and -12V coming out of power panel. Plugged existing motor straight to battery, no go. Plugged new motor to battery all good. Ok so it's motor and panel. This happened before, about 75 hours back. The 12V from panel obviously doesn't have the current. Why? This happens twice, why?
as we say in Aus PBO, poor bloody boatowner. :(
cheers
David

If you have 12v running to that electric motor and it doesn't function BUT it will if hooked up directly to a battery, that suggests strongly that you are experiencing a voltage drop.

Keep in mind that you can get 12 volts from a few flashlight batteries but that certainly won't power that PTT motor. Your problem is normally caused by one or more cable/wire terminals that are either loose, tight but dirty, or corroded internally.

Remove all cables/wires pertaining to the PTT electrical system, including the battery terminals themselves, the ground at the powerhead, etc. Clean all cable/wire terminals thoroughly and also the components they attach to, then tighten them securely with a wrench or pliers... not your fingers if wing nuts are encountered.

Hopefully that corrects your problem.

Thanks Joe, I'll do that. That might fix the hard to start when cold issue too. I've found that starting with both batteries gets it going.
