boat controls and selenoids 001.jpgboat controls and selenoids 002.jpgboat controls and selenoids 003.jpgboat controls and selenoids 004.jpg

Trailer switch runs motor up. Tilt on my handle runs it down, wont trim up. Dealer at parts place said probably selenoid.
Took both off, not easy getting to the back bolts to take off both units.
Hooked jumper cables to spare battery... Gounded both units, touched green first it clicked, then touched blue, it clicked.

When the trailer switch on dash ran it up I thought the up selenoid has to work... the problem might be in the top of the handle, tilt/trim toogle switch.

I see no way to take top off the control to access toggle??? Need some help....
No screws visable I see, did not want to break it prying it apart

Thanks
Gerry

Re: TILT/TRIM not working on up mode

The two clicks you heard are encouraging. Didn't understand the trailering part but doesn't matter. I forget which, but green or blue is for up and the other is for down. 2 separate relays that you heard energize. If the internal high current contacts of those relays are intact then that part of it should work for you.

On the shift/throttle lever, look on the bulkhead side of the shift arm and you should see 2 screws holding the cover plate which when removed should give you access to what you want.

If you don't succeed, I will go out into the 105 heat after my bath and some AC and all and give you a first hand account of access.....but I think the latter is unnecessary, the former should work for you.

Here are the troubleshooting procedures and wiring diagrams.

PS Don't take the control apart unless it's bad, and right now, I don't think it's your problem.

Where should I go. The selenoids click. The trailer switch on dash runs up motor.
My toggle on handle runs it down, not just up the amount you use for running trim. I read that hand out. Will read it again.
Again my selenoids are clicking when out of boat.

Thanks

Re: TILT/TRIM not working on up mode

Blue (Sky) = Up
Green (Sea) = Down

There are only 2 solenoids, one for up and one for down. The Trim Limit sensor is what prevents the drive from going out (up) beyond a certain point. The Trailer button simply allows you to bypass the trim limit sensor and raise the drive out all the way. The drive in (down) button works fine.

Based on your description it almost sounds like the trim limit sensor is giving you problems. Otherwise it could be the contacts on the drive out(up) side of the switch on the control. I wouldn't expect to hear the solenoid 'click' of the contacts were bad. However, If trailer works and drive up doesn't, I'd be inclinded to look at the trim limit sensor.

That hand out does not have my senerio on it.

I put a test of continunity on bottom selenoid contacts. blue --up and ground read 5 something, green --down and ground read the same.
Next I hooked up separate battery to ground and same two points.. Both selenoids clicked....out of boat

So I am thinking from the tilt trim toggle to the selenoid somewhere.

Will have to find that trim limit sensor.

Re: TILT/TRIM not working on up mode

UPDATE!!!!

Disconnected 2 black wires coming from transom.
One was to a blue/white
One was to a purple blue
I jumped the 2 black male points with a wire...Up trim still does not work at handle

Is it my toggle switch in handle?
Cant figure out how to get top of handle off to get to switch

Re: TILT/TRIM not working on up mode

Had a similar issue on my boat, ended up replacing the trim limit switches on the outdrive.... once calibrated worked like a charm. I would definately check to see if that is your problem. on mine they were simply worn out and wiring had started to come apart inside the limit switch from age (they were very old).

did you test the wiring on the trim switch coming out of the controls to see if it responds when you push the button? I am sure a simple check with a meter will tell you if your switch is sending out a signal. If you get a response when pushing the button then you wont need to take apart the controls.

Re: TILT/TRIM not working on up mode

Ended up being the trim limit switch...Cleaned it and all works.
It had to be the last thing I tried.
