Re: Tilt/Trim OMC Cobra
Vinney is absolutely correct -- I was having an intermittent (sp?) starting problem last year with my OMC 5.0L engine. Turn the key one time and I'd have voltage...turn it off and then on again and nothing. Very strange! Wiggled the wiring harness around in back on top of engine (with key in "ON" position and the voltmeter gauge would pop up to 12V. Turn key off and then on again..no voltage again. Checked the 50A fuse for main starting circuit and it was visually corroded inside the glass tube and like Vinney said, had bits of solder inside the tube also. Changed both fuses and havent had a problem since. And now carry a few spares on the boat -- just in case! NHLake, try changing the fuses first (Inexpensive test) because with my corroded 50A fuse, it would also kill my engine if I tried putting on my bilge pump, or blower, etc... not all the time but probably 75% of the time until I changed it. Good luck!
