Tilt & Trim on 1991 40hp Evinrude

I have a 1991 40hp Evinrude (tilt & trim)<br /> The question I have is,when I tilt the motor<br /> down it makes popping sounds.It's almost like<br /> it is binding.When I tilt it up it doesn't make<br /> these noises. Is this common with Evinrude tilt<br /> and trim units?

try to remove the upper tilt pin & clean & grease.
