I have a 1987 galaxy boat which has the tilt trim switch on the gearshift as well as a switch on the dash of the boat. When I first got the boat ( about 3 yrs ago) the switch on the gearshift work to both trim it up and down but I had to use the switch on the dash to completly lift it up all the way. Now that switch only works to tilt it down and the switch on the dash only works to trim the motor up. Why is this??? What could the problem with this??

The trim function is controled by the trim limit switch. This switch is closed when the motor is down, and opens when the motor is trimmed to it's max. Since the switch is located on the outdrive tilt pivot point, is it exposed to the water and they rot out. The fix is to bupass it or repair it. I recommend bypass. Look on the PTT wiring harness, near the pump for two bullet connectors. Disconnect the wires into them and connect them together. You hav now bypassed the limit switch.

when you trim the motor now, make sure you do not over trim it, where it ventilates

I have an 82 galaxy with a mercruiser 485 in it. My trim switch on my gear shifter only trims up. I can hear something in the back of the motor compartment clicking. The motor won't trim down! Any ideas. The tilt switch on the dash I just looked isn't hooked up. Would that b the problem. I'm not much of a boat mechanic any help would b nice.
