tilt/trim question

have a 1972 80hp merc on my boat w/tilt/trim.have opportunity to get real good 1980 70hp merc.1980 70hp has no tilt/trim.is it possible to keep all t/t off old one or do i have to replace some/all.not an outboard mech. and just wondering cost for adding t/t to the 1980 70hp with what i have.is anything switchable and if not all,what would i need to purchase for the70?thanks

If your power head fits the mid/lower of the engine with t/t, then just pull it and put it in place of the other engine.

The PTT from the '72 is completely compatible with the '80. Merc didn't change styles until mid 80's.

Take lots of photos, then remove the PTT from the 72 motor and install it on the 80. You will need to bleed the system afterwards but that is a simple task.

It will interchange and its not that difficult. It's definitely easier to remove the T&T from one motor and install it on another compared to swapping powerheads! The trim ram brackets bolt right where the shocks were removed. Then just run your lines and electric wiring (which you would still have to do if you changed the power head)! Make sure you do the bleeding process correctly!

thanks guys!just like most of us,im on a budget for this and this info helps greatly!its good to know that people are out there to help each other.definately my place for any other questions!may all your boats purr like kittens,and the fish you catch be monsters!
