Re: tilt trim still trying
Baboon bum, I had the tilt motor drive me absolutely luney a few weeks back. I had sold my primary boat (not the 12Footer, not ever), and decided to move the project boat to the gargae to begin tear-down.....But the tilt just made a tick sound in UP, and a very light whistle when I tried DOWN.

I took the relays out, removed the covers, and determined that the contacts were beyond help.
So I replaced both relays...Same thing.

I then ripped-into the motor, removed the brushes (which loooked fine), cleaned the armature, and reassembled.
no change.

So I disconnected the two leads from the motor, and connected them (using heavy-gage wire), directly to the battery. Bingo!!
UP werked fine. Transposed to the leads, bingo! DOWN.
Ok.. now I'm throwing tools into the woods. That left nothing to check, other than the helm switch, and all the wires going to the relays, and the battery. What I found was a loose ground connection where it connects to the CD pack mounting bolt! I tightened that stupid 1/2" bolt, and it werks like new.
All that to say this...Don't give up on it. take it one step at a time, even if the problem does happen to be the last thing you check.
