The boat I purchased, an 89, had the 2-wire motor with pump below valve/resevoir and it was in pieces, unsure if I had all the pieces so I bought the 88 style, complete, with the motor at a 90 degree from resevior and utilizing a 3-wire motor, used, from eBay for 60 shipped.
My question, I wired up the older unit with the newer units integrated solenoid assembly and just placed the black wire to ground. The unit functions real slow and the motor gets rather warm, I can smell the paint getting hot... Do I have to utilize the older solenoid assembly or could I have a stuck valve or some issue with this older unit?
I have no pressure tester, I may still have some air trapped in system since I was leary of cycling the lower unit up and down when this motor was hot enough to start popping fuses or melting wires.
What I have tried so far:
I had unhooked the trim rams from the lower unit and noticed the left ram moved slower than right, I started to remove the left ram thinking it may be sticking to get it rebuilt, when cracking lines loose there was considerable air in line, and with both lines off, the ram moved freely, I filled ram with ATF and reconnected lines and tested, same slow speed and motor getting hot...
Suggestions? thanks...
