I recently purchased a 1988 Sea Ray with a Merc 135, this is my first boat with Electric Tilt/Trim. Should I leave it up or down over the Winter storage period? I know when it's down there is pressure in the cylinders, will this tend to blow out the seals over the long storage period? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Tilt Trim & Winter Storage

Leave it in the down position, as water and condensation can collect in the lower unit, freeze and possibly crack the unit. Leaving it down lets any water drain out. No problem with the lower unit being in the down position, as far as the hydraulics are concerned. Run it down until the trim rams just release, then just hit and release the up button quickly to relieve pressure. Some run the rams all the way in and then give them a bump out, but I prefer this method.
