I am looking at bidding for an T & T unit off a 79 85HP Johnson, the seller claims this unit will fit a 74 135HP evinrude and from the picture it looks as if this may be the case. Anyone aware of any subtle differences to look out for. many thanks dm.

I believe it's in the same family, but I'm no expert yet. Maybe a trip to the top of the list will get the attention of someone who can help.

The 1979 PTT assembly is a unit that fits inside the transom brackets (the brackets that bolt the engine to the boat). The 1974 PTT assembly bolts to the outside of the transom brackets.<br /><br />The engines differ (pertaining to the PTT) in that the design of the transom brackets themselves are different as is the steering swivel bracket.<br /><br />Bottom line.... the units will not interchange.

They are not the same.<br /><br />Do not try to use the 1974 unit. <br /><br />BRP makes a kit ( new it's $975.00 list price )<br />Part # 773530<br /><br />Otherwise find a used one that the hydraulics fit inside the clamp brackets.<br /><br />I may have something available... If you want to use that T&T on your 74 you will have to do the same thing I did to my 72 100 HP Johnny. Basically you have to get the complete transom mount and swivel bracket and adapt your steering stem to it. I can be done and it's not to difficult.
