While trying to loosen the steering cable nut on my tilt tube, I broke the tilt tube threads. How do I go about removing the tilt tube, if this is the right name for the threaded part? I have a mid 70's Evinrude 135.

Thanks!

The safe way is to suspend the motor and if everything goes well the tube will "slide" out either side when the pressure is off and everything is lined up. Sometimes it's esier to remove one (or both) of the stern brackets.

Replace it with a stainless one.

Good luck!

Are there nuts or anything that hold the tilt tube in? I need to replace the threaded part that the steering cable threads onto.

The tube is threaded on both ends with nuts. The longer threaded part goes on the starboard side. Thats what the nut on the cable screws on to. I would suggest getting the new ss tube first and if it were me, I'd get 2 new ss nuts also. Once you get the tube it will be very easy to see what you need to do.

Good luck!
