I have a 84' E115TLCRD with a rusty/crusty tilt tube.
My steering is seizing up in the tube, and I'm wondering if I should just replace the tube.
I found the parts for the replacement (2 lock nuts, 2 washers, 2 bushings, and a Stainless Tilt-tube) for ~ $115.
I don't think I can do this myself since I don't have a lift to hold the motor while I remove the old tube.
The labor itself doesn't appear to be that hard or take that long.
A local place quoted me $150 in labor which seems awfully high for the hour it should take with the right tools. Don't you think??
I think I'll try removing the steering this week and taking a shotgun cleaner to the tube.
Should I then fill it with a marine grease or an CRC style oil?
Or do you think I should bite the bullet and replace the tube?
Thanks!!
