Does anyone know how to get the nuts off the ends off the tilt tube om an Evinrude v4? They are 1-1/4 inch or 32mm. When I try to get them loose the entire tube just spins. There is no way I could find to hold the tube because the ends are threaded, don't want to mess up the threads. Does this job require an impact wrench? Maybe some heat? Thank you for any of your advice.

Is it possible to lock any side with a double nut adjusted tight between both while holding them in place with a proper wrench so to work removing the other side with a wrench ?

Why are you removing the tilt tube? Is it damaged?

Using two wrenches should get one of the nuts off.

???----I am in the process of scrapping a bunch of midsections today.-----Wrench on one nut and wrench on the other and in a few seconds the tube is in the scrap pile.

I am not removing tilt tube, just need to get the port side nut off so I can lube my steering cable. The steering cable is to long to get out of tilt tube without removing engine. The starboard nut is loose, but port side seems frozen and tube just spins. I do not have the tools and support to remove and remount the engine so getting the nut off would be best for forcing oil through steering cable. Replacing the steering cable at this point is not an option for me.
