It does not matter whether the position is up or down. You should never stow or tow with the weight of the engine on your hydraulics. You should always lower the engine onto blocks. If you live in area of extended freezes and do not keep your boat in a heated garage then you should also open the manual release valve over winter to avoid freeze cracks. Water naturally enters the trim system in small amounts whenever you lower trim while the boat is moving.

Well it hasn't frozen here in Sydney,Australia since the "Ice Age",so im good with the freezing bit.I dont like the thought of salt water entering the trim while moving.No leaks on trim only on tilt ram which is pretty much stationary while moving.
I would of thought if no fluid leak under high pressure system,how can water get in under lower pressure.Anyway its coming off soon to change all o rings/washers/scrapers etc.Job looks easy,getting it off will be the problem.
