here we go...

1999 Merc. 9.9hp 2-stroke. Has been in storage for last 8-9 yrs. Mounted it on the boat yesterday and now I find out that while it tilts just fine and is lubed well...it will not lower back into the run position. Thoughts? Ideas??

Thanks,
Terry B.

It locks in the up position. Find the release lever, lift up on the motor until you can move the release lever. Then while holding the lever up you can lower the motor. If I understood your question properly.

Re: Tilt will not release

Nope...that does not work.

what happens is the entire yoke the pins are mounted to has a spring in the top of it. the spring is forcing the yoke to the rear where the slides are and catching in the stops. only way to let the motor down is to lean WAY over the back of the boat and push that yoke forward while lowering the motor. In anything but calm water the chance of falling overboard is increased greatly. Can't be having that...especially here in cold Puget Sound!

Looks like a trip to the dealership is in order. OUCH!!! My wallet already hurts!!!!
