I don't disagree with you about the earth going on without us. My concern is what type of world are we leaving for our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren? If pollution is contributting to a green house effect don't we owe it to the next generation to look into it? Should we be like our grandfolks and just say screw it their will allways be a certain type of game, heck that chemical doesn't do anything...? Ignoring{or missunderstanding} something doesn't make it safe it just causes a problem further down the road. I'm sure when over half of these "so called miracle chemicals" were made no one considered cancer, birth defects, etc.... Like I said I'm not disagreeing with what your saying but I also won't stick my head in the sand just because some money making corp said it's safe.

There is a lake just up the road from me that is still suffering because of this, it is comming back but it is slow. <br /><br />
We may be talking apples and oranges in the acid rain debate as compared to the global warming debate, but the similarity of the arguments (as far as the people on each side and the question of what constitutes scientific proof vs. 'expert' scientific theory) and the subsequent discovery that acid rain is a real man made problem that can cause significant environmental problems makes me a little uneasy when it comes to the global warming debate....
I agree, lets say the earth was going to warm up, but naturally it would have taken a few million years, along comes human they make it happen in a few thousand years. We deffinatly have made an impact on this planet, I wouldn't say it has been a good one???

We will adapt or perish.<br />Can anyone say Ice-Age? Moma Earth has said it before and is saying it again! <br />
Good point Link the earth will go on without us, we won't go on without her?

There is no one on this board (including me)is qualified to even comment on the science involved in global warming.<br /><br />It is unsettling to me that everyone seems to want to take the debate out of the hands of scientists, and into the hands of politicians and economists, both of which are known primarily for the hot air they produce...

Well now, I live on this planet and do have children, yep that quilifies me to be able to learn and discuss things...... Lets not forget some of these so called pro's invented things like agent orange, and other so called non- poisonous chemicals that helped our planet.

Re: Time and global warming.

Winter air temperatures over Antarctica have risen by more than 2C in the last 30 years, a new study shows.
The researchers were particularly interested in measurements taken in the middle troposphere, the layer of air at a height of about 5km (3 miles).<br /><br />Their analysis shows that temperatures in the layer have risen by between 0.5 and 0.75C for each of the last three decades.
WAIT A MINUTE<br /><br />
Dr Turner believes this could mean the temperature rise is a result of a natural fluctuation in Antarctica's climate or that current models are inadequate.<br /><br />Dr Jeff Ridley, a climate scientist at the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research in the UK, agrees.<br /><br />He believes it is likely that current climate models are unable to sufficiently recreate conditions on the continent."I've looked at all these models and seen that Antarctica is not very well modelled at all," he said.<br /><br /> "So we shouldn't put too much confidence in what they tell us is going to happen there."
OK now i am really  <br /><br /><br />tommays

Re: Time and global warming.

tommays, below is a quote I got from the Hadley Centre. It seems to contradict the quotes you provided. Could you provide a link to the article that you got the quotes from?<br /><br />"Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is a 'greenhouse gas' and contributes significantly to global warming. The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere depends on human activities, such as burning fossil fuel, and also the behaviour of the ocean and terrestrial biosphere. Understanding how the global carbon cycle works is essential for us to predict how it, and the climate system, may behave in the future. The coupled climate-carbon cycle project at the Hadley Centre addresses this issue by including models of the carbon cycle within its existing climate models."

Same thing that happened to waitresses Dave. When I go into a restuarant and get approached by a 'server', I tell them if they would like to be my waitress/waiter I will stay and eat, otherwise I will be on my way. Often, they don't get it so I have to explain it.

Re: Time and global warming.

With all the hot air coming from our government, and all the women on their cell phones going on.........and ya wonder why there is global warming?<br /><br />As for carbon dioxide, isn't that the gas that we humans and animals exhale when we breath? Maybe it is a sign that the earth is polluted with too many humans and animals. Yeah, that sounds far fetched and so does a lot of other stuff that is put out by the media.<br /><br />I can see it now in a thousand years, plenty of oxygen, clean air, and the CO level way below where it is now. Now why is all the plants dead?<br /><br />Chicken Little was right after all these years,,,,,,,the sky is falling!
