Time for a new ignition coil?

Hi. My VP 3.0 GLP-D engine starts and runs well. The ignition coil seems to be in a bad shape. Should I replace it now, or try to clean and paint this one? Thank you.

After an initial clean, showing the few missing sheets (3-4?). Primary resistance 0.8 Ohms, secondary resistance 8200 Ohms.

get the GM version , grind off the rivets, install the brackets on the new coil and bolt brackets in place. In time the rust will expand the coil internally and cause it to fail

The primary resistance seems too low maybe not an issue
I learned from my running problems that a coil can pass resistance tests but fail as it warms up. The one that was bad was getting REALLY HOT and right at that point the engine would cut out. Normally they get warm but not so hot that you can't put your hand on it.

Thank you. Any big no-no's when installing the old brackets on the new coil? Bolt/nut vs rivet, steel vs aluminum, etc.

nothing with any of the fasteners......

add lots and lots of paint to keep the stamped steel coil pack from rusting. I myself would probably epoxy coat it, then paint it.

I really hate those styles of coils

you can buy coils already fully plastic coated , but yeah , a good paint job will help preserve the new one .
