Time for a new tach?

My tack works fine at idle and registers up to about 2000 rpms before dropping back to zero at higher speeds. All the wiring seems good, but the tack is old (1991). Is it time to replace it, or is there something else to check?
Stalker

If yu are sure all the wiring is tight and clean, then I'd say go for another Tach. It would be nice if you could talk your friendly shop into lending you one to verify... Not sure if rectifier would drop out at higher RPM's, but ya never know...

I know the parts guy at the marina pretty well. I'll give it a try.
Thanks,
Stalker
