Time for carb cleaning and rebuild?

Recently replaced the fuel pump. When I pulled the clear plastic site tube off the old fuel pump, I found the connector at the fuel pump clogged. Picture attached shows where it was clogged and what it was clogged with. I'm guessing the only way this junk could get into the full pump is from the carburetor, since the other end of the site tube (vacuum tube?) connects to carb.

Oh, did I mention the engine got sprayed with a fire extinguisher. So, I'm guess that junk is the extinguisher powder.

New fuel pump works great. But... in certain situations, the boat bogs down and can't get up on plane. Situations like heading into wind and against current. I give it full throttle and engine seems to not get past 2,000 ton2,5000 RPMs. But, only in the situations against current and wind. Other times, it accelerates nice and jumps right up onto plane.

I am guessing the carb is gunked up and the reason boat now has trouble against current and into a strong wind. Boat never had issue before being sprayed with fire extinguisher.

Time for a carb cleaning and rebuild? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks in advance. I very much appreciate all the great advice and help on this forum.

One more bit of info.

I filled tank twice and neglected to add stabilizer. Is that yellow gunk a result of bad fuel and has nothing to do with fire extinguisher powder?

Sorry for the long post.

jb, I would certainly say it is time to rebuilt the carb(s). But I would also remove the fuel pump and either rebuilt it as well, or replace it with a new one. JMHO!

I agree with GM ... and will add that I don't add stabilizer to my fuel. Can't imagine that if you've had a clean tank, and just added fuel that goo is from just gas. Something else would have had to get in there. Regardless, it's not due to not adding stabilizer.

Thanks gm280 and southkogs.

Installed new fuel pump earlier this week. Carb cleaning and rebuild is next.

Thanks again!
