Rubber backed Marine Carpet is the way to go IMHO.

Careful with the water based glue. I tried a test sample spot and it didnt work. It could have been a bad batch though

Wear a Resporator with these glues. They can be Very dangerous.

Good luck :)

The carpet is up to you, but the OEM brands should be good.

The adhesive I use is Weldwood contact cement, it's much more waterproof than the latex based adhesives.

Thats what I use too .. Again that is why I suggested using a resporator !! This stuff will make your hair curl and have your wife and kids goto Aunt Shelbs house for a few days !

Careful with this stiff .. it can/will kill you if you give a chance !

Re: Time for new carpet

Is that Weldwood Contact glue the same as Weldwod Contact glue for gluing Formica onto counter tops? Reason I ask is because I too used Weldwood Contact glue for Formica to MDF counter tops in my shop and I've had two projects come loose on me since. Neither project has ever seen any water or weather of any type but they seperated all the same. And I did exactly as the can directions suggested and the glue was freshly purchased too. I applied that glue to both pieces and allowed to tact before attaching the two together. Then I used a "J" roller to attach the Formica to the table top using constant heavy pressure. Don't know what went wrong...

Re: Time for new carpet

I've recently tested some different glues. A test sample of a latex one didn't hold up to being soaked overnight. It pulled up easily. The weldwood contact cement held good, but I'm not going to use it because it a one time shot, no room to readjust if you get it wrong. I ended up buying 4 gallons of Weldwood Outdoor Carpet Adhesive off Amazon. This stuff is permanent, i could not peel the sample up, just ended up ripping the carpet fibers off the backing. I'm waiting for warmer weather for my install, like others have said the fumes are wicked bad. Also with a heater running I would prolly blow my garage up too...or be dead from fumes.

Re: Time for new carpet

Couple days late but I can say that I've used the carpet from Cabelas and it has held up very well in my Lund. It is rubber backed as well. The glue I used was a Home Depot brand and it has also held up very well over 4 years of use. Comes in a bucket and applied with a notched trowel.
