Hey guys, sorry, its been awhile. I started my own business this fall and things have been a little crazy.
That being said, its warm in the mid-atlantic and I'm thinking about dropping the boat back in the water. The boat has twin Volvo 5.0 Gi's and is raw water cooled. I have right at 200 hours on the engines. I bought the boat in 09 and to the best of my knowledge, no one has ever done the risers and manifolds. I check the risers every time I get back in the slip just to make sure they're not too hot. To date, they have never been too hot to touch. If I remember right, they are typically in the 125-130 degree range according to my infrared gun. So...I was just on the phone with a mechanic buddy of mine who says it is time to change them out regardless just based on age. He also said it is usually the riser that goes, not the manifold but still suggested replacing both. The boat has spent the majority of its life in the Chesapeake - mostly brackish water - with the exception of about 10-20 hours in Jacksonville, FL just before I bought it. What do you guys think? The best price I've found is about $650 a set. My questions are:
1. Can I squeeze another year out of them?
2. If temp isn't the issue, what is and can it be checked?
3. How hard is it to replace them? I'm relatively competent, but I also know my limits.
Thanks
