Anyone have an idea of the time frame (accounting for non major problems) required to change the water pump and impeller on a 200XP? Just trying to see if this is a do-able thing on the weekend.<br /><br />thanks,<br /><br />Kevin

I would guess a 3-4 hours if you haven't done it before. Longer if you run into stuck bolts or some other unsuspected broken part. Longer if you drink beer while you work. Longer still if your lady wants the yard mowed :D . If you were good and had done it before, about an hour.

Re: time required for h20 pump change

greeting shipmates,<br /><br />I just got the book and noticed it says<br /><br /> "As the driveshaft rotates, the impeller rotates with it. Water is then pumped up to the power head bla bla bla."<br /><br />Makes me think I may not have a problem as I only started the motor, but did not put it in gear....<br />therefore, makes sense to me that I would not see any water till I put it in gear. In other words, the impeller only moves water when the engine is put in gear, in idle, the engine is air cooled.<br /><br />any comments from engineering?

The driveshaft turns as long as the engine is running, the gear shifting occurs at the end of the driveshaft in the gearcase. You should have water pumping at all times the engine is running.

The drive shaft and the impellor turn anytime the motor is running. Now, the propshaft doesn't turn when the shifter is in neutral.

thats what i was wondering because it shows the shaft connect to the prop via a pinion gear, what allows the prop to not turn? looks like a straight shot on the diagram

Total time: 1hr 30 min. easy to do. by the way guess why it was not working? the evinrude dealer did not install the shaft/inpeller keeper key thingy. shaft was just spinning around the impeller. no o-rings either...go figure. changed everything anyway.
