Anybody Know What Kind Of Paint To Use On A Timber 19ft Boat That Was Painted With House Paint(gloss).
Would I Have To Use Oil Based Paint? Or Is There Anything Else Out There I Can Use?
Thanks Guys.

I think you can paint it with anything but a good marine paint may last a while.
Marine paint is oil based. You should strip ALL the house paint off and start with a good primer made to go under whatever brand marine paint you buy.

Concur, get all the old paint off and go with an oil based paint of what ever brand, use marine paint if you don't want to do it again for a while.

Using latex paint in the water doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Fresh water or salt water will make a difference as will your hull material.

I've always wondered about vinyl paint for the bottom. It is used commercially on bigger boats and ships to prohibit marine growth. Doubtful a house blend is the correct type, but I'm curious how well it worked for you? How long did it last? Does you boat sit in the water all the time or is it trailered?
