Did you use a new gasket between the powerhead and the exhaust housing? There is an o-ring in the shift handle that wears out and allows water to leak out. It'll still work, but the water will wash out the grease from around the handle shaft and cause it to wear out faster. Anytime I have the powerhead off on a new-to-me motor I replace the o-ring.

The plastic float comes in the OEM rebuild kit.

I had a couple extra O rings in my carb rebuild kit that I didn't use. I wonder if they will work for the shifter handle?

What is OEM? When I did a google search for it, I got "original equipment manufacturer"

I don't know how big the carb kit o-rings are. They are still available new from the dealer or anywhere that sells o-rings for that matter.

OEM = the manufacture, who is BRP. The genuine BRP carb kit is available from your local Johnson/Evinrude dealer or any online from various sources. I don't know if iboats carries BRP stuff, but if they do buy it from them.

Well, I've learned something new.
I didn't realize that BRP was still making parts for the old evinrudes.

So, I need to pull the powerhead again, and see if I can dig out the o-ring from around the shifter handle and replace it.
