Timer Base Question w/ PIC..............

'96 Rude 115hp crossflow. Timer base plastic covering is chipped with a hole in it. I can see a little shiny metal inside the hole. I'm still having some funky idle problems other then the idle it runs fine, is this a problem?? Ohm checks per manual are in Spec. Here is the Pic. Sorry for the junky Pic, I was in a hurry. I have never seen a problem quite like that , although! that could be a problem, if going to ground.

Thanks for the input. I did conduct the continuity tests per the shop manual and they were all good. I just ordered a DVA adapter for my DVOM so I can check the output of the charge and sensor coils.
