89 2.3L OMC
Finally got the exhaust manifold back and installed (really sweating that one).
Got the motor started and let it warm up to temp and then decided to check the Dwell and Timing.
Maybe its just me, but what a PITA. I would get the dwell set and then check timing (as per manual) and the dwell would move. So go back and set the dwell again, round and round I went.
Although to get the dwell set to 34-38 degrees the motor wouldn't run, so I set it at 30 degrees and then the timing (should be 10 degree) ran like poo. Set that by ear to 12 degrees and she sounded better, but the dwell is now off again.
What am I missing or doing wrong?
Should I just go with an aftermarket ignition like this Pertronix Ignitor II and be done with the pionts before I ever get started with them?

Hey the good news is SHE IS ALIVE..
So my problem was simple really... I was looking at the wrong spec for the points gap and trying to set it at .035 (which just happens to be the gap for the plugs), when I really needed to be setting it at .019 for my 2.3L.
After I got that all ironed out and fiddled with the timing some she is running like a top. What a friggin bone head I am sometimes.
Took her out for a couple hours and gave her a good shake down (mind you I have only had the boat for 2 weeks) and everything was grand.
Thanks for all the replies and help.
