Re: Timing chain/tensioner?

Hey Guys,

First, let me thank each of you for your unselfish input on troubleshooting the starter issue I had with my boat. The video tells it all so get yourself some popcorn and please enjoy my second production. I hope this is helpful for someone else down the line.

Congrats, I'm glad it worked out, but did you see anything that would lead you to the original problem? See anything with the starter, starter gear teeth, cable connections, slave relay which would provide more info to what the problem was?

IT"S ALIVE!!!!! just curious though, did you have the muffs on and water turned on, couldn't hear any water running in the background before you started the engine????::confused: , other wise guess you'll be changing the impeller tomorrow!

All Dodge, this starter has been finicky since I had someone else install it about 6 years ago. But it always started. I could never really accurately explain the symptoms. I thought it sounded like something else {timing chain} based on the noise. But tell tale was posting the video and you guys immediately noticed the harmonic balancer not spinning appropriately.

Once I remove the starter, I visually inspected the gear teeth to rule that out. Their integrity appeared normal {see pic}. Next, I figured for $82 {starter} and another $30 for the slave solenoid and cleaning all the contacts {free}, it was an inexpensive, but highly likely the resolution. And it was. Key, I think, was the ability to post the symptomatic video. You guys saw it right away. Thanks

I don't see any coolant in your recovery bottle. It should be about half full on a cold engine.
