Was it a Genuine Mercury Part, or a 3rd Party(including GM) Part?I installed a new ignition module today and tested it on the timing light. I got identical results as before. I’m kind of stumped as to why it’s not advancing as much as it should.
I’m returning the part, and may try another. I believe the seller was running a bait and switch. Advertised as Quicksilver, but what I received came in an AC Delco box with a Quicksilver label slapped on it. Am I wrong or are these not different parts? Was it a Genuine Mercury Part, or a 3rd Party(including GM) Part?
Still waiting for the prop to come in, and then a free day to go sea trial after that.Have you changed the prop yet?
would not be surprised if the OEM part is a AC Delco made but would also think it that it would not be boxed that way...I’m returning the part, and may try another. AgreeAt the risk of sounding like a broken record
Mercury dont make ecu's any more than they make spark plugs or bearings . A LOT of the spares branded as oem parts are out sourced from all over the place
One could argue the seeing as how the motor itself is out sourced even genuine mercruiser parts are aftermarket .
All you guys thinking that by paying double for genuine parts from a dealer your getting a better quality part are in La La land. Look sideways and you'll get a lot of parts for 1/2 price .
P/N 811637001 from the Merc catalog.I have no Problem using a GM labeled part, provided it is the Correct Part. I have seen many 3rd Party Parts that while the part was a GM Part, and it looked Identical, it wasn't the Correct Part. Years ago it was the same when it came to Carbs and Distributors, some people's Attitude, "it looks the same and it fits, and they are all the same"
As for the OP, I don't know what Part # he requires, or where he got that Part # from, so now I wonder if he is ordering the correct Module. He hasn't listed the Model #/Serial# of the Motor, so I can't be 100% certain of being on the correct Parts List
Thanks Jim. How does one identify when a p/n has been superseded? Should I just assume that is the case whenever there is the little + icon in the catalog? That # has been discontinued and superseded to 77-8M6008208
Also, is there a way to identify when a part has actually been revised/redesigned rather than just changing the p/n on the same old part? Thanks Jim. How does one identify when a p/n has been superseded? Should I just assume that is the case whenever there is the little + icon in the catalog?
