Timing light

I have an older timing light that doesnt have the iductive pick up connector, just a metal clip. Do I just hook it directly to the bare coil wire itself instead of around the rubber part or directly on the spark plug connection? Thanks

Those older lights usually had a spring that fit over the plug terminal and into the rubber boot on the other end.

If that is what you mean by a clip, then that is the way to attach it. If it is an alligator clip,find yourself an old mechanic and ask him.
