Timing - Merc 7.4L MPI 1999

Can someone provide me with instructions on setting the timing on a 1999 Merc 7.4L MPI? Also what tools will I need. Thanks.

Howdy,

You evidently don't have a service manual. That's the first "tool" you'll need.

Also, a timing light will help. The manual indicates what other "stuff" you'll need.

I have the SELOC manual however I didn't see the procedure in it. Thanks.

The Seloc manual is best used for starting your BBQ, or fireplace.

If the Boatfix link doesn't point you to the right manual, (check engine serial number.... year model doesn't mean much) and go to the "Adults Only" sticky in the thread list for this forum and look in the "Manuals" section.

Ensure that you have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader

Then click on (BOXED IN RED) "MARINE ENGINES 7.4L 502 etc"

Then you can click on each chapter and it will open for you.

I clicked on the red boxed area and it takes me to the manual however clicking on each chapter does nothing.

As you roll your mouse cursor over each line, it will change to a "hand" or other sort of "pointer". When it does, you can click and open that section.

#16 is the wrong manual,. IF your engine is actually a 99, or even a 98, you should be looking at the specs and procedures in manual #23.

Yeah,

I was hoping that the serial number range in #16 would tell him that.

I don't think Boatfix has #23 in a down-loadable format either.

Then why try to use boatfix???????? They only have 4 engine manuals (I think that is the right number) but the link in the Adults only has them all?
You can also download the 16 manual in one click in the Adults only thread, not one section at a time. The manual was changed.
